Literature Review on the Human Brain Can Fear Be Prevented

Scientists research the human body so that we, as human-beings, know how to protect our bodies and can learn some interesting facts for the better of our knowledge. Many think that the brain is an interesting topic. It is probably because there are still many things about the human body that are unknown. The human brain is just like the ocean, dark and strange. The brain is one of the most mysterious in our bodies because there is still so much that isn’t known about it. With new advances in technology, it has become much easier to study the brain and how it works. Many articles have been and are being written about studies that show new knowledge or could potentially lead to a big discovery. Just one example would be where emotions and reactions come from inside the brain. Similarly, development of research and gains in knowledge is vital to knowing how fear is caused and where it starts. Also, researchers use this knowledge to find ways to prevent fear of certain things. In an article entitled â€Å"Can Fear Be Prevented?† written by Tim Sandle, â€Å"Scientists have identified inhibitory interneurons in the hippocampus (the brain region involved in memory), that help to ensure the formation of neutral memories in the face of an unrelated, fearful event.† This means that scientists know where the sensation of fear actually starts. Feminism And Its Impact On Women s Rights Movement Essay

Growing up, misconceptions of feminism lead me to reject the idea quickly. Identifying myself as a feminist made me uncomfortable since it evoked the image of a troop of an angry man-hating, unattractive women. When signing up for classes for senior year, I wanted to pick classes of interest to me, but sadly those classes were filled up, leaving me with no choice to enroll in a Gender Studies class. Unexpectedly, I never met with a mass of enraged women spewing hate towards males; rather it was calm and filled with intelligent conversations.Media often broadcasts radical feminists as the poster child for the movement, an image I had coming into class. This view began to deconstruct when I learned there is no right way of being a feminist. One can be calm and rational or angry and upset, which is a logical way to feel about the patriarchal society. Unfortunately, due to the women s rights movement being skewed, misrepresentation of the media leads to feminism being misconstrued and un accepted by young women. To combat the negative image, suggestions have been made to change the name of the movement, but this suggestion has come under fire for focusing on the word than the actual issue and has led to the discussion of reeducating the definition of feminism. Interpretation of women s rights and the movement has always been skewed, with the movement increasing and decreasing in prominence. In America, feminism started in the late 19th century, with the intention to standShow MoreRelatedCritically Examine How Black Feminism Emerged And Assess1229 Words   |  5 PagesBlack feminism emerged and assess its impact on contemporary feminist theory. Benchmarking Analysis Report for Tata Motors

Question: Discuss about theTata Motors Benchmarking Analysis. Answer: Introduction Benchmarking also referred to as best benchmarking or process benchmarkingmeans comparing ones business operations, practices as well as performance with that of its competitors in the same business and market structure. The specific factors that are considered for a product or service offered by an organization are the quality, time and cost. They are the main constituents that are used to compare the organizations with one another (Cassell et all, 2001). However, companies can also compare themselves with those others that do not use similar processes in their operations. This means that they have a chance to evaluate their other competitors who use different processes and different markets but similar products. Benchmarking is used to evaluate the performance of a business as well as improve it (Sekar et all, 2014). Therefore, benchmarking allows an organization to make improvements in their business operations as well as learning new techniques, processes and technology to better their products or services. Also by learning from each other the businesses will be able to improve the product quality, increase productivity and make better and smarter decisions. Benchmarking reports are used by the top management, potential and current investors, business analysts and decision makers (Min et all, 1996). It gives them an overview of the product offerings, performance and market or industry position of the business in relation to its competitors or those others in the same business (Yasin, 2002). The report is used to evaluate the management strategies used by the business management team in order for them its current business position. It can be used in a long term range to improve the planning techniques and strategies as well as improving the quality and market initiatives for the business to use in future to enhance its market position and compete with its competitors (Yasin, 2002). TATA Motors being the company of my choice, is one of the best automobile companies in the world. It is a multinational organization and will compare it with other motor companies that also multinational like Tesla Motors, Toyota Company, Chevrolet among others. It is an Indian multinational automobile company located in Mumbai in India. After joining with Daimler-Bens of Germany in 1954, TATA entered into commercial vehicle business where it has made a lot of developments and grown in terms of business. Even with its assembly offices being located in Great Britain, Thailand, South Africa, Spain, South Korea and many other countries, TATA is still continuing to develop itself and increasing the number of locations for its operations in Turkey, Indonesia and Eastern Europe. It has manufacturing and assembly, research and development centers in very many parts of the world where its daily operations are carried out, distribution and sales made. It has many various car models with very good quality and cheap to purchase for the consumers. Benchmarking Measures Customer Base This is a group of people who frequently purchase a certain type of product from a certain company without failure. This means that no matter how expensive the product is, they still choose to buy it. Therefore, this can be referred as one of the main issues or requirements for a business for a business to succeed in its market structure. For a business to perform well and beat its competitors, it must have a perfect and good customer base. The customer base should be large, certain and should be able to generate good revenue for the organization. That being the case, TATA Motors has got a very wide and large customer base in the whole world. This simply because it is a multinational automobile company that has offices in many countries around the world. In addition to that, the cars are also affordable for the customers and therefore they can be purchased easily. The TATA Motors cars are of many different models which gives the customers a variety of choices to choose from. Different consumers have got different tastes and preferences for different products according to price, quality, color, model, brand to name just but a few factors that affect consumer choices. Therefore, TATA Motors have a variety of those car models that consumers can choose from. As mentioned earlier, TATA Motors targets different kinds of customers. This is in consideration of the fact that it has a variety of products like buses, trucks, vans, coaches to name just but a few. Its products are bought for travelling purposes especially by schools and other common passengers. Also it targets the government by manufacturing vehicles that can be used by military for country protection. This therefore increases the customer base to not only the common citizen of a country but the government itself. As for its competitors, they may have different car models but may not be as cheap as those of TATA Motors. E.g. when a comparison is made between TATA and Tesla Motors, Tesla has few brands of automobiles and also does not engage itself in manufacturing, producing and selling commercial cars. On the other hand, TATA Motors deals with both commercial vehicles and automobiles. This therefore is likely to create a larger and wider customer base. In addition to that, the quality of the cars made from other companies is certainly poor compared to that of TATA Motors. TATA Motors have cars of very high quality. This certainly comes from the usage of high quality raw materials, modern and effective technology, good manufacturing and assembling processes that give the best quality in cars. However, it faces a lot of competition from other car companies that specialize in manufacturing and selling of motor vehicles like Tesla and Chevrolet Motors Companies. It is obvious that every consumer of a certain product would want to purchase a product that is of good and high quality. They would want to purchase a product that is worth their money and that which will serve the purpose they want. Therefore, TATA Motors Company is certainly able to satisfy its customers. This increases the number of customers who are likely going to choose its cars thus creating a wide customer base. TATA motors in comparison with Chevrolet Motors, it is in a better position that Chevrolet. This is because Chevrolet does not cover as much products as TATA. Also it does not have many brands and models like those of TATA. Additionally, the vehicle manufactured by Chevrolet seem to be some of the most expensive vehicles in the motor vehicle industry. In relation to that, they seem to be made only for the rich people which lowers its customer base to a smaller one compared to that of TATA. Obviously, most of TATAs vehicles are cheaper and more affordable even by the middle class earning people which increases its customer base into a much wider and larger market. Products Range As mentioned above, TATA Motors deals with automobiles and commercial cars. This means that they have to start from scratch to manufacture and assemble as well as sell the cars. It has many models and brands of cars in its industry which they sell all around the world. Generally, its products include: passenger cars, trucks, vans, coaches, buses construction equipment and military cars. Some of the models and brands of the commercial cars include small commercial vehicles e.g. Ace and Super Ace, light commercial cars e.g. Ultra Range, pick-ups e.g. RX Pick-up and Xenon Pick-up, medium and heavy commercial vehicles Noxus and Prima Trucks. In addition to those, there are buses, luxury cars, personal cars, mini vans, vans, Nissans to name just but a few. This clearly shows that TATA has many different kinds of cars meant for customers to choose from. Furthermore, TATA has also developed a model of cars that use electricity. The type of car that was developed is the Tata Indica passenger car that is powered by TM4 electric motors and inverters and the Tata Ace commercial vehicle. Both cars are run using Lithium batteries which is quite modern and unique. Apart from these two electric vehicles, TATA Motors is still trying to develop another model of a car that will still be using electricity. This is a clear indication that TATA Motors is a company that is growing fast in terms of technology and also product innovation and development. An organization that has many products for customers to choose from is likely to grow faster in terms of innovation because it will have the desire to satisfy its customers even more and offer them more and better choices in the future. They will be pushed to come up with new products that will outdo those of their competitors and be given more and better preference by the customers. Therefore, a company with many brands and models of products will definitely face a lot of competition from other companies that may be producing the same or similar products. E.g. TATA Motors faces a lot of stiff competition from Tesla which also has many brands of vehicles. Geographical Location TATA Motors is a multinational motors company. It has offices in most parts of the world. Additionally, it operates I so many countries in the world where it manufactures its cars as well as sells them. TATA Motors headquarters are well located in Mumbai in India. This is certainly different and far away from the headquarters of its competitors like Tesla Motors which is based in Palo Alto, California. TATA is strategically located near its raw materials source, laboratories and assembling centers. This therefore makes it easier for it to do its daily operations and sell its cars. Also it is located in a region and country where its cars and other products have already become popular as well as famous. The location of TATA has become of great help for it to increase its sales. When TATA Motors is compared to its competitors it is well and better placed and especially its offices, Assembling and manufacturing centers. Technological Resources Research and developments of the company are done at Jamshedpur. The research is mostly to improve the product quality or to coming up with a new product. However, this is done by over 1400 specialist and experienced engineers. In relation to the research, after the research and development, the information or product is taken to the only Indian certified test facility where they are tested for noise and vibration. They are tested to ensure that both vibration and noise are of desired environmental acceptance. They are supposed to be both environmentally friendly and accepted. Currently, TATA Motors is till increasing its technological knowhow by developing the TATA Motors European Technical Center (TMTC) where design engineering, product development and TATA motors support skill tests are done. In addition to that, a subsidiary of TATA Motors TATA Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company has also started a research and development facility in Gunsan South Korea as well as Hispano Carrocera Zaragoza in Spain. This clearly shows that TATA Motors is growing with time in terms of technology and product development which gives it a better position in the competitive market with its competitors. Tis gives it a better chance to improve the quality of its products and develop new ones that are better than that of its competitors. When I compare TATA with one of its main competitors like Tesla motors, it is in a better market position because it seems to have more research and development facilities than those of Tesla. TATA Motors has joined with other companies that deal with technologies with an aim of creating partnerships and finding ways of improving its own technology. E.g. in the year 2015, TATA signed an agreement to announce a redefined engagement model with Tata Technologies which was meant to strengthen the relationships between the two companies but mostly to help TATA Motors business improve its technological position in the motor industry. However model was also meant for helping it improve its product quality so that they are able to deliver innovative world class products to the market and to the consumers themselves. On the other hand, Tesla motors does not seem to join or partner with its related companies to help it solve or deal with some challenges that it may be facing. Instead, Tesla believes that it can deal with the challenges and do away with the on its own. Marketing and Sales Marketing and sales is one of the main operations of a business that should be a prioritized. This is because it entails encouraging the customers and making sure that the organization has made profits from its costs. TATA Motors uses a very well structured marketing and sales approach that is meant to understand the requirements, needs and desires of the customer. There is a lot of research that is conducted at frequent times to ensure that the company is satisfying its customers the best way they can. This researches are made by looking for the specific requirements of the products which helps in innovation and development of the product in question or even new products with the customer characteristics. There are independent teams that are meant for this purpose who are experienced and specialized in these sectors. The information is also used to learn more about TATAs competitors and the ways in which they can be better than them. They ensure that the market dynamics and customer preferences are very well known and understood so that they can be able to satisfy them. In this market research, the company uses modern technology to find and learn this kind of information. This has been very helpful to the company in beating its competitors because the company it is able to satisfy its consumers better than its competitors. These researchers have the responsibility of making sure that the company has all the information it needs for its manufacturing, development and sales. Therefore, this means that they have to conduct research for all products and all car models and brands as they compare with what its competitors are offering and what its customers need and desire. This fact of marketing and sales has caused a lot of improvement and increase in the profitability of TATA Motors and has caused a lot of growth for the company. TATAs growth rate is currently at 8% down from 6% and 7% from the previous two months of year 2016. Therefore, the marketing and sales research and development has certainly become very advantageous to the company. When I compare TATA with Tesla its competitor, TATA has got better marketing and sales techniques because the market research is done by experienced and skilled workers. Thus, they are able to get very vital and good information about the markets, the consumers as well as the competitors positions. The information is usually very valuable in such a way that it is the one that is used to make most of the important and decisions about markets and sales of the products. Technology Development This is another tool used in benchmarking of business organization organizations. This is certainly because technology is one of the main requirements for an organization to have good performance and to grow. When an organization used modern, right and better technology, then it is in a position to produce good and high quality products that increases the chances of them being purchased more when compared to those of the competitors. The product consumer always choose the products that will satisfy them and especially in terms of quality. TATA Motors uses about 2% of its annual profits to invest in new technology for their research, developments and manufacturing purposes. The technology in this company helps the employees to remain updated with the latest products, sales methods, modern manufacturing processes, market dynamics, customer dynamics to name just but a few areas where technology can be used. Additionally, TATA Motors has got many prototype building and testing facilities where operations after research and development is done. This is where the new products are tested and new information and ideas are developed and natured into new unique company products. The employees who work at this place are usually very good decision makers as well as innovators with very wise business ideas and experience. That being the case, TATA Motors also uses the modern and developed technology to partner with other related companies which can be of help to it. When it partners with other companies, it will have a chance to learn a lot from its partner especially on issues that may be difficult to it when it is one. These issues include areas like in marketing, customer maintenance, technology development, raw materials buying to name just but a few. Generally, when organizations combine efforts, their work become easier and their costs may also reduced because they are likely going to share the expenses whenever they are to share. With shared technology developments, TATA Motors gives itself a better chance to compete with its competitors and be on top of those that may not have advantage like itself. Therefore, with the help of the modern and developed technology, TATA Motors is able to top up in the motor vehicle industry where there so much stiff competition. It is also able to keep in touch with its current market position and finding ways to improve and be the best in the market. This actually includes making very good market decisions concerning the market structure, position and segment. TATA Motors has to do all that it can to win the market and maintain its customers. On the contrary, some of TATAs competitors like Tesla and Chevrolet have not had so many technological developments mentioned or known. They may have grown but still using the technologies that are not helping them change and grow significantly or even at a faster rate. Also they view technology sharing as competition and do not seem to like such idea. Therefore, this still places TATA Motors at a good position in the market. Conclusion It is vital to remember that for an organization to grow and develop itself as well as reach its goals, it has to do competitive benchmarking. This will help it know its market position and be able beat its competitors. References Vorhies, D. W., Morgan, N. A. (2005). In my paper I am going to be talking about some of the major virtues you will need to acquire to become a ethically wise and social person according to the three leading ethical philosophers; Aristotle, Kant, and Mills. I chose this topic because I think one of the biggest faults that I have is really not being that social to everyone. I also chose this topic because and a communication major I can learn from all the ideas that I will be reading and experiencing. One of the most powerful thoughts that you must possess when dealing with others basically comes down to the all mighty Golden Rule, Do to others as you want others to do to you. Aristotle discusses that a person with good character has virtue. These virtuous characteristics only come from experience, training, and the ability of always doing good. One of the virtues that Aristotle talks about which deal with the social virtues is the virtue of Friendliness. Friendliness deals with treating everyone equally and with the thought of good in mind when it comes to friends, enemies, old acquaintances, and family. I think that one of the major issues that Aristotle talks about is the meaning of happiness. A good definition of friendliness that I came up with is the transferring of ones happiness to another. Friendliness is all about passing on a part of your happiness to someone that you meet. A good example of this is when you are walking some where and you pass someone that you dont even know and they give you a great big smile and a hello. I dont know about others but when someone smiles at me the only thing that I think of doing is smiling myself. Friendliness is just making someone happy, and passing on your good to others. One of my experiences that I have benefited from that dealt with Friendliness isnt a recent one, but something I will always remember. Coming from a catholic high school we were able to do some service activities, which we did through our religion class. During one of our quarters of religion class we were able to pick some sort of service that would help our surrounding community. The service that we pick is that each weak we went to one of the local retirement homes and got to interact with some of the people that lived at these homes. I really wasnt looking forward on doing this because I had this idea that these people really didnt want us there. When I got there I was pleasantly surprised of how many nice people I met there and how much Ive learned from this experience. When we got there we would do different activities with them like playing cards, and different games, and just talking and watching TV with them. Each week you could see how much happier they were when they had us around to talk to and interact with. You have to understand how lonely they get at these places and how they are just surrounded by older people. I could see I how passed on some of my happiness to them by having different conversations with them of the simplest things I have done during the week. It was also interesting hearing all those older stories that they told us of how things used to be. Just by having us there we brought some of their life back and some of the happiness that they used to have outside of the retirement home. Another social virtue that Aristotle touches on is Truthfulness. When dealing with someone, there has to be that feeling that he or she really is as genuine as they say and present themselves. Aristotle talks about those boasters who build themselves up to be someone who they really arent. Another bad issue is those who really say some nice things about you, but really dont care about you at all. It

buy custom Analysis of the Napoleonic War essay

buy custom Analysis of the Napoleonic War essay The Napoleonic War refers to a sequence of wars that were pronounced against the Napoleon's French Empire between 1792 and 1815 by the opposing coalitions. The increasing discontent with the Feudal Government of France has led to the French Revolution in 1789, drawing the attention of every European nation. What followed was violence and worldwide involvement that triggered nonstop war for over two decades, as different competing empires tried to impose their opinions regarding power balance. The Napoleonic War era can be classified into two occurrences: The French Revolution, as well as the Napoleonic Empire. The revolution has led to the collapse of the old French Government, after which it was replaced by a series of vicious civilian administrations. The peak of the violence saw the king; King Louis and his queen being brutally murdered; an act which incited European nations to be against France and guarantee that they would not cooperate with it. The unsuccessful invasion of Russ ia by France in 1812 has led to the collapse of the French power. Napoleon troops successfully managed to conquer a major part of Europe and, consequently, Napoleon Bonaparte, who was an intelligent and charismatic army general, took over the control of France. Napoleons presence as the leader of France complicated the political landscape of Europe, and increased the environment for confrontation till one of the two conflicting sides was defeated. The Napoleonic Empire suffered a military defeat in 1815 at Waterloo, bringing to an end the Napoleon Wars and bringing back of a monarch to Paris. Carl Von Clausewitz's Paradoxical Trinity Clausewitz's Paradoxical Trinity is composed of a) pre-historic violence, hatred, and hostility which are considered as a blind natural force; b) the game of chance and probability, in which there is freedom for creative spirits to roam; and c) element of subordination, which is used as a policy to make the ruled see reason. That is to say, the passion that triggers a war must be intrinsic in the people; the extent of the game of talent and bravery in the realm of chance and probability is dependent on the specific character of the commandant and his army; while the political aims are left solely to the government. Therefore, Clausewitz's Paradoxical Trinity consists of the people, the commandant and his army, and government, and not violence, chance and reason as some people presume. The people are concerned with the nature of the war; the army is concerned with how the war is conducted, while the government is concerned with the purpose of the war. It is important to note that all the three magnets must be dedicated to war, in other case; the disproportion may result into a defeat. This is confirmed in the assertion by Clausewitz's that all the elements of the Paradoxical Trinity should be considered equally, despite their variable relationships and co-equal status. The strength of the relationship between the government and his military commanders determines greatly how effective the people are in employing foreign policy and military instruments in achieving the objectives of the war. In addition, the strength of the relationship of these magnets is dependent on the ability of the commander to communicate and people ability to understand the inherent linkage between nature, purpose and conduct of the war. Analysis of the Napoleonic War (1792-1815) From the Napoleons campaigns, it is apparent that the blind natural force, i.e. the violence that propelled the French troops across Europe to fight in the war, did not emanate from the people of France, but from general Napoleon himself, who had control over the army, as well as the government. Napoleons key military strategy was to identify and overcome the central force of the enemy. His aim was to break his opponents will to resist, making it easier for subsequent negotiations. This is evident in his own words when he said that he was confident that by crushing the central body of the enemy, the matters that followed would take care of themselves. Of importance to note, is the close attention he paid to choosing his generals, as well as how he calculated the logistical requirements of his campaigns. He also synchronized his operations by ensuring that his troops routinely used accurate watches and maps. Napoleons unsuccessful invasion of Russia in 1812 that has led to the collapse of the French power was a blunder that historians blame on poor logistical planning. He concentrated on the general picture of the war, devising the overall plans for the battle and giving directions on combined attacks, but leaving the vital decisions of tactical employment to his soldiers. Being the head of the government, he used his powers to incorporate the military, diplomatic and political dimensions to help him to succeed in the war. Clausewitz's Paradoxical Trinity of government was largely employed in the war, as all events were controlled by Napoleon, who was the head of the French Government. It can be said that the cooperation of the military and the government, was the reason behind Napoleons success in the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805. The failure of the Peace of Amiens resulted in the British Government forming the Third Coalition which included Sweden, Austria and Russia in April of the same year. Following threats to attack Britain, General Napoleon sent over 200,000 troops to the East. He also invented the use of self-contained army corps. He used six corps, with each corps strong enough to work independently. This helped the troops to progress along a broader front, facilitating logistics and enhancing the pace at which they advanced. Napoleon was personally in Germany commanding his troops, and with the support of a majority of states in South Germany, he progressed to meet the Austrians who had taken over the control of Bavaria. Napoleons troops encircled the Austrians, who decided to surrender 30,000 of their men, without any fight, in Ulm. Following the surren der of Austrians, the Russians retreated. Napoleons then focused its attention on the Prussia troops who had plans of invading France but were unprepared. After the Peace of Pressburg came to an end, Napoleon declared war on Prussian soldiers, completely destroying them and earning an early success. As seen above, Napoleon, as the head of the government, was concerned with winning the war (purpose), and he used his powers to instruct his military officers on whom and when to attack. However, without the coooperation of the troops, the battle would not have been successful. Therefore, it can be said that the strong relationship between the French military commandants and their army and the Napoleon government has lead to the success of the Battle of Austerlitz. Other than the use of military might, propaganda was also employed in fighting the Napoleonic War, especially in the French Revolution. The support of the masses was vital, and, therefore, British and French governments used propaganda to rally their citizens to have belief in their countries. Through propaganda, soldiers were encouraged to battle bravely, while civilians maintained working to provide their countries with everything they needed. The aim of propaganda was to create nationalism and loyalty in the people so that they would willingly want to fight and even die protecting their countries. The use of propaganda required the cooperation of the government and the people for it to be a successful strategy for winning the war. For instance, the British Government tried to create a bad picture of France in the minds of its citizens by making them believe that France was a bully, and that the French revolution was a foreign risk that was against changing the political ways of Eu rope. The Britishs nationalist propaganda exploited the variations between French and Britain, successfully managing to convince the British nationals to hate France, even if they did not have a chance to find out the truth for themselves. Consequently, British nationals developed a strong love for their culture and country and fought to protect their country. Napoleon also extensively and masterfully used propaganda to climb to power, legitimize his rule and establish his picture in the minds of his subjects as a symbol of posterity. His propaganda mechanisms involved severe censorship and exercising control over all aspects of art, books, theater, as well as the press. Napoleons aim was to be depicted as the person to bring peace and stability that was very much needed in France. It is important to take note of the gradual changes in the propaganda methods used during Napoleons reign. Initially, his focus was on his function as a soldier and a general in the army, but later on the propaganda changed to depict his role as a civic leader and emperor. He targeted the civilians to make them have a belief in him that he was the one to change France. Though it was unexpected, he managed to cultivate an association with the contemporary art community, even being actively involved in the commissioning and controlling every art production to achi eve his propaganda goals. In conclusion, I would say that all the three magnets of the paradoxical trinity were very influential in understanding the Napoleonic War (1792-1815). This is because the people, the military and the government were all dedicated to the success of the war. Even if general Napoleon was defeated in the end, he managed to succeed in some of the battles e.g. the Battle of Austerlitz. It was through cooperation and hard work of the military commandants and their army, and the peoples support that Napoleon managed to take over the rule of France and fought in the war. Therefore, the three magnets are inseparable, they are all important for the success of a war. Buy custom Analysis of the Napoleonic War essay

t.v. ratings system essays

t.v. ratings system essays How was the rating industry started and how does entertainment-rating work? Since the beginning of radio and television, advertisers have been spending billions yearly in order to promote sales and gain business, so it just makes sense that they want to know if there advertising money is being put on the stations that are actually being listened to or watched. Because of this high demand of user information, companies began to come up with ways to monitor these activities without actually going to each household throughout the country. For this to happen devices had to be made that are compatible for everyday household use and could be used by anyone at that location. However the solution was conceived on finding this information about who listened or watched what and for how long it didnt matter, just as long as the advertisers knew where to put their advertisements when it came to the popularity of a station. The beginning of this ongoing process of audience surveying began in the 1920s with radio when radio station owners grew curious about how many people actually listened to their stations. The broadcasters of these stations urged that listeners of their station filled out a post card verifying that they actually heard this request and also to state whether their stations signal was clear or not. This type of survey continued on for a while until advertising companies began to demand the estimated size of their listening audience in order to decide what stations that they would air their product advertising on. Nevertheless the American Association of Advertising and the Association of National Advertisers coincided to form the Cooperative Analysis of Broadcasting, or the CAB in 1930. From this came the first recorded method of audience recording called the telephone recall method. With this method 35 cities were chosen across the United States to have calls placed to random ho mes picked from a phone direct...

HOUSE CONSTRUCTION Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

HOUSE CONSTRUCTION - Essay Example Good design for low-rise housing has to focus on the increasing density at the same time without conceding the comfort of the existing residents. However, this design has to contribute confidently to the character of the locality while offering high-value public domain. Good house designs should not need expensive construction materials and techniques but offer creativity to produce well-designed houses that are smaller, more suitable and have lower running coast. Good low-rise housing designs of infill residential projects are important to promote community acceptance and understanding of the issue of higher densities present in the suburban regions. A major factor in housing cost is the provision of parking space. Notably, about 30% of apartment structures are for below-ground car parking (Stephenson, 2011). However, there is a possibility to lower the cost of building a house by reducing car parking especially if the site for the house is close to public transport means. The site areas used for access driveways and garaging can be reduced. This will leave more land that can be used as a private open place, residential amenity or for tree planting. In the past decades, low-rise house development in Conventry, UK has mainly focused on space in order to achieve good amenity. However, design creativity is now required at both high and medium densities. More detailed ideas are needed concerning the relationship between buildings and their neighbors and the streetscapes. The details should also provide information on vegetation benefits at each location and how to maximize the landscaping. The increase in the density of housing that exists in the suburbs is a problem that needs a solution. The issue of density is sometimes a cause of distress within a given community. The house design present in this paper reveals the fact that medium-density housing does not require to be achieved through the process of high-rise development. The organization of this housing
